Well, I finally decided to explore the hand tufted method of manufacture as an option for certain designs and I just received this photo of a sample I order from my manufacturer in India following the design and instructions I sent him...100% New Zealand wool has been used in 10mm and 12mm pile so that the tangerine motif is slightly raised from the background... I hope this will be an attractive option for clients...
Handmade rugs are woven or knotted by hand. Every single knot is done by hand whereas a machine-made rug is made entirely by a machine also called a power loom. Hand-tufted rugs are also referred to as handmade rugs although they are made using a drill gun that inserts the pile into a cloth backing creating a loop pile. When this pile is sheared (trimmed) the loop piles turn into a cut pile. These rugs may be referred to and look like handmade rugs but cost less since the gun makes for faster production. However, these rugs are not as valuable to a rug collector or someone...
Well, it's official...Pantone's new selection for the 2012 Color of the Year is Tangerine Tango, a "richly enticing reddish-orange hue with a spirited glow emanating from a hint of yellow in the blend." "Sophisticated, but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. "Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenalin rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form...
Just before Christmas I decided to act on an impulse that was slowly becoming an obsession ... I LOVE & breathe color ... I NEED it ... and this I have discovered through trial and error. So what happened? Hmmm..well, many of you might be aware that I started out in interior design before moving into rug design. Thing is, I've never really been allowed free reign to express my creativity in my own home...this is kind of 'icky' to mention, but I made a vow to authenticity and being myself, so here goes....my husband has always had a very strong opinion about the interior design and decor of our home...oh,...
It's always exciting to receive a new rug, to see the finished result and the satisfaction that arises from that moment of conception culminating in the outcome now at your feet...and this time was no exception especially since I was receiving my first round rug and a design that I love - Barcelona Sun. Hand knotted rugs may take up to 4 months to manufacture so one has to learn patience! But it's so worth it! There are invariably moments when my drive takes a dive, especially in this challenging economic crisis we are having to work through and I wonder if I am going...
I posted this a while back when I took the plunge and put in my first order. In other words making my 2d designs manifest into a 3d reality. Since redesigning my site this post got cast aside, but it is such a significant event in the course of my adventure into rug design that I can't not repost it here. The joy and high a designer gets when seeing their vision, their dream materialize is enormous...... "There is nothing (well, almost nothing) more satisfying than seeing your idea, your dream, your own design and concept become a 3d reality! and this for me has finally come...
When choosing a colour scheme for a room a good point to start from is a rug that you may already have or a rug you’ve seen and would love to incorporate into your scheme. It’s usually much easier to start with the rug of your choice rather than to have already created your interior scheme and try to find a rug that will match, harmonize and accentuate the existing décor. Of course the best option is to work at everything together although this can be quite a daunting task! So, for the time being I suggest you begin with the rug of your choice. So let’s say we’re starting...
I am so happy to host a lovely article by a very talented interior designer, Laura Mannes. Laura Mannes’ love of antiques and interior design, along with earlier work in advertising/television production culminated in Laura Mannes Design. Well worth visiting her website and browsing her portfolio of projects!Thank you Laura for allowing me the honor of re-posting your article, which is, of course, of special interest to me! “Start with the rug”, is a well worn design credo that happens to be a smart route to take. When recently asked to choose the single most...
One of the easiest ways to refresh the decor in any area is with an area rug. Area rugs offer the most variety in floor coverings. But before you rush out to buy one, you need to know just a couple more things about them, other than that they can define a space and enhance your decor. Whether you choose handmade or machine made, antique or thoroughly modern, you need to consider the following: What Size and Shape?Area rugs are made in standard and non-standard sizes and they can be rectangular (most common), round, square, oval, octagonal or long and narrow for runners. Rectangular...
